How to Make a Pumpkin Spice Latte

Step 1:

In a small saucepan over medium heat, whisk together 2 tablespoons pumpkin purée, 1/2 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice, 2 cups milk, 1 tablespoon maple syrup, and 1 tablespoon vanilla extract. Cook, whisking constantly, until mixture starts to steam.

Step 2:

Remove from heat and carefully pour mixture into a blender. Cover, hold the lid on tightly, and blend for about 15 seconds, or until frothy.

Step 3:

Make the espresso or coffee. If you’d like extra milk foam to top your latte, pour a few tablespoons of milk into a glass jar with a lid while coffee is brewing. Tightly seal the lid and shake for 30-60 seconds. Remove lid and place jar in microwave for 30 seconds.

Step 4:

Grab two mugs. Pour 1/2 cup coffee (or 1 shot espresso) into each one, then pour pumpkin mixture over both. Top with extra milk foam (if using) and a sprinkle of pumpkin pie spice.

Homemade Pumpkin Spice Latte

Recipe by: Rebecca Firkser
Makes: 2 servings

2 tablespoons canned pumpkin purée
1/2 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice (store-bought or homemade, see directions below)
2 cups milk (whole or 2%, or any unsweetened nondairy milk)
1 tablespoon maple syrup
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
2 shots espresso, or 1 cup freshly brewed coffee
Extra 2% milk (optional)

1. In a small saucepan over medium heat, whisk together pumpkin purée, pumpkin pie spice, milk, syrup, and vanilla extract. Cook, whisking constantly, until mixture starts to steam.

2. Remove from heat and pour mixture into a blender. Cover, hold the lid on tightly, and blend for about 15 seconds, or until frothy.

4. Divide coffee and milk mixture between two mugs. Top with extra milk foam (if using) and a sprinkle of pumpkin pie spice.

Pumpkin Pie Spice
Makes: about 3 1/2 tablespoons

2 tablespoons cinnamon
1 tablespoon ground ginger
1 teaspoon ground allspice
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Mix all ingredients together with a fork and store in a clean spice jar with a lid.

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 4 tablespoons butter, cut into pieces
  • 1 heaping cup pumpkin puree
  • 1/2 cup evaporated milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1/2 cup golden raisins (optional; I did not add them)

Cinnamon Sugar Mixture:

  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

Cream Cheese Frosting:

  • 1/4 cup softened butter
  • 4 ounces cream cheese
  • 1/2 pound powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Generously grease 12 muffin tins.
  2. Sift flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and salt. Cut in butter with two knives or a pastry blender until all incorporated. In a separate bowl, mix together pumpkin, evaporated milk, egg, and vanilla. Pour pumpkin mixture into the flour mixture. Add raisins.
  3. Fold gently until mixture is just combined. Pour into greased muffin pan—batter hardly ever fills all twelve unless you keep it down to 1/2 full. Sprinkle generous amounts of cinnamon-sugar over the top of each unbaked muffin. Bake for 25 minutes. Allow to cool in pan for 15 minutes, then remove and allow to cool. Ice with cream cheese frosting.
  4. For the Cream Cheese Frosting: Mix all ingredients on high until soft and whipped. Spread onto completely cooled muffins, or place into a large pastry bag with a large star tip and go crazy!
  5. Store in fridge, as icing will soften at room temperature.

New York Values

New York Values

– NEW YORK (AP) — When Ted Cruz sneered at what he called Donald Trump’s “New York values,” some New Yorkers took it very personally. And some responded about the way you’d expect New Yorkers to react.

The ever-combative Daily News hit the streets with a big front-page illustration of the Statue of Liberty giving Cruz the finger. The headline: “DROP DEAD, TED.” And in a reference to the Texas senator’s birthplace, the tabloid added: “You don’t like N.Y. values? Go back to Canada!”

On the morning after Thursday night’s Republican presidential debate, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, a Democrat, took to the airwaves to denounce the candidate and demand an apology for comments he called “obnoxious on every level.”

The use of “New York values” as a term of abuse rankled plenty of city residents.

“Like that’s a bad thing?” said Willie Perry, a real estate salesman and registered Republican, as he headed to work in New York City. “Actually it’s a good thing. I think that’s ludicrous. What did he mean by that?”

John Markowski, a minister who was dropping his son off at a public school, said: “It’s insulting for anyone to make a derogatory comment about New York values. I think we pride ourselves on being a place of diversity and equality.”

During the debate, moderator Maria Bartiromo asked Cruz to explain past comments he had made about Trump embodying “New York values.”

“You know, I think most people know exactly what New York values are,” Cruz said.

“I am from New York. I don’t,” Bartiromo said.

So the GOP conservative explained: “Listen, there are many, many wonderful, wonderful working men and women in the state of New York. But everyone understands that the values in New York City are socially liberal or pro-abortion or pro-gay-marriage, focus around money and the media.”

Trump responded movingly by citing the city’s response to 9/11.

“When the World Trade Center came down, I saw something that no place on Earth could have handled more beautifully, more humanely than New York,” he said to applause from the crowd in North Charleston, South Carolina. “We rebuilt downtown Manhattan, and everybody in the world watched and everybody in the world loved New York and loved New Yorkers.”

He added: “And I have to tell you, that was a very insulting statement that Ted made.”

One in 38 Americans lives in New York City, but the state’s record of going for the Democrat in the winner-take-all electoral college system means Republicans rarely have to worry about insulting the populace. Bashing the big city has long been a winning strategy in more conservative parts of the country, namely the Midwest and the South.

Not a lot of New Yorkers have given money to Cruz’s bid for the White House. His campaign took in only about $487,000 from New York contributors through Sept. 30, according to the most recent filings. But one New Yorker, Wall Street hedge fund mogul Robert Mercer, contributed $11 million last April to a super PAC that supports Cruz.

Cruz “has no trouble taking money from New York City, but he’s quick to insult our people and our values,” said Mayor Bill de Blasio, a liberal Democrat.

Laddergoat YOU so Random

Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood is a Western-themed shooting game, but it’s a lot more famous on the Internet as the game that spawned Ladder Goat. What is Ladder Goat, you ask?

Read more:

Part of the sentence “Oh you, Laddergoat, you so random” Comes from a playthrough video of Call of juarez: Bound in blood and the Laddergoat meme is a rage with gamergeeks.

The goat just starts levitating beside the ladder — at first it looks like it’s going to shoot off into space, but then it goes on a ceiling, jumps back to the ground, and repeats the process. This time it actually stumbles as it’s going up, but it quickly gets going again, like a champ.

If you’re planning on watching the original YouTube video, we should probably warn you that about half of it is just the player standing still and laughing uncontrollably. The player takes a moment to collect his wits, then decides to follow the goat up to the roof to find out what’s so interesting up there. At this point he watches as the magical animal comes down to the ground on its invisible escalator, and he promptly loses his shit again.
